Sharing Our Writing
In Year 3 we have been sharing our writing with other children in the school. In Literacy we have been writing circular stories, with a linked beginning and ending. Our characters are all tiny creatures, who have huge adventures. We made our stories into books, and shared them with our friends in Reception.
As part of safety week, we designed and wrote road safety leaflets to help children cross the road. We chose different audiences. Some of us gave advice to young children, and others to older children. When we had finished them, we took them to different classes to share our safety tips, and ask the children what they thought. We felt we shared some important advice, and gained some great feedback.
You can see more photos of us sharing out writing in Year 3’s Gallery.
Bowes Museum Project
Year 3 and Year 6 are again taking part in an Art project with Bowes Museum. Our first visit to the museum took place in January. We learnt about Dementia, and talked to an author, Jessica Shepherd, who has written a children’s book about a child who has a granny with dementia. We all became dementia friends. We also looked at the work of artist Mark Clarke, who has created an assemblage exhibition based on memories and loss. His mum, who also suffered with dementia, inspired his work. Next, we will be trying some printing ourselves, based on what we have learnt.
You can see more photos of the project in Year 3’s Gallery.
Pedestrian Safety Training
Look out for Year 3 in the coming weeks out and about around the local area. We will be taking part in Pedestrian Safety training, learning how to spot hazards and keep ourselves safe. We really enjoyed our first session, despite the freezing cold temperatures and snow flurries! You can see more photographs in Year 3’s Gallery.
Tag Rugby Festival
This half term, Year 3 took part in a tag rugby festival, along with lots of other schools, at Bishop Barrington. We have been working on our rugby skills in PE in school, and we had a chance to show off and improve our skills in the games at the festival. Everyone had a great time in the Autumn sunshine. You can see more photographs in Year 3’s Gallery.
Bill’s New Frock
In literacy we have been reading Bill’s New Frock by Anne Fine. We have written stories and explanations about wearing a dress. You can see some of our brilliant writing in the photographs below. You can see photographs of our work in Year 3’s Gallery.
100% Attendance
Well done to Bryan, Livvy, Evie, Nina and Seamus who have 100% attendance in Year 3, not missing any time at school since September. What a fantastic achievement!

Flat Stanley taught us how to help each other in an emergency. We learnt DRABC Danger Response Airway Breathing Compressions
Oriental Museum Visit
Year 3 had a wonderful time at Durham’s Oriental Museum. We handled artefacts, explored the galleries and even saw some real mummies. After all of that we mummified Summer!
