We are very proud of our allotment. For the last 8 years George has been our wonderful gardener. He retired in October. The children and staff really miss him, however, our allotment will continue as George arranged for someone to replace him.
As soon as the winter weather fades, each class takes it in turn to spend time at the allotment planting seasonal produce throughout the spring months. There are always seeds to plant, and work to be done. The children take sketch books and draw, write poetry and photograph the changes which take place throughout the seasons. We love spending time in this environment and take great pride in what has been achieved over the years.
At harvest time the children collect the produce and it is sold at our Harvest Festival Celebration and the money we raise is sent to CAFOD.
Our Bishop Auckland in Bloom trophies (we have won trophies in the Allotment Garden category for five years, coming first in 2012) are displayed in school and our Scarecrow watches over our Allotment. You may also have seen some of our scarecrows scattered around Bishop Auckland!
