Welcome to Year 3, the start of Key Stage 2!
In Year 3, the teachers are Mrs. Kinsey and Miss Gage, supported by Mrs. Sowerby.
In our class, we enjoy a varied curriculum, including some new activities for the children, like French and swimming. This is also an important year for our Catholic children, as it is when they prepare for, and receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Communion for the first time. This is a very inclusive programme, and all children (Catholic or not) enjoy learning and taking part in the activities together, and everyone is included in a celebration party at the end.
Literacy and Numeracy are taught every morning in our class, as well as daily grammar and spelling activities. In the afternoons we teach the foundation subjects and practise reading daily, through independent, guided and shared reading activities.
All children receive homework in Year 3. In the first term, this is given weekly and supports spelling and sentence structure plus basic skills in numeracy. In the following terms the children are given greater independence and ownership of their home learning through learning logs. These half termly projects give the children the scope to pursue particular interests from the curriculum, to manage their learning and to share their own ideas and knowledge. We look forward to meeting you in Year 3!

Homework in Year 3
For the first term children are asked to write sentences related to the spelling or phonic focus of the week in their homework books (set on a Monday). They should also read of course as often as possible. For maths they need to practise their tables and will receive maths homework tasks each week. They need to hand homework in BEFORE the next piece is set.
This changes after Christmas, when the children will begin learning logs at home. We will give more information on this nearer the time.
