Welcome to Year 1!
The children have settled really well moving from Reception to Year 1. They have worked extremely hard.
The picture above of the children with their reading record books were the the first group of children to read at home every night and achieve 10 stamps. They were very proud of themselves and all children are continuing to improve in their reading. Kohl was our first ‘Reader Leader’ of the year. Well done to Kohl!
In September we had a ‘French Day’ and we all dressed in red, white and blue and did fun activities. We tried some French food, learned some greetings, numbers, colours and made passports.
In Design Technology we have been learning about moving mechanisms. We have used split pins for levers, folding hinges and sliding mechanisms so far.
Towards the end of the half term we took a walk around our ‘Local Area’ to see what features we could identify. We looked at names of roads, different types of houses, buildings, traffic that went by and people that we saw. Back at school we drew and labelled a large map of our walk and did lots of writing.
In science we have been learning about the human body and the amazing things our bodies can do!
For Maths we continue counting backwards and forwards to 20 and up to 100! We are learning number bonds to 10.
We have worked hard on our writing in literacy and have been concentrating on writing sentences. We have written stories and are now learning to write instructions.
